Sweta Upadhyay

Computer Science and Engineering

  • India
  • Computer Science
  • UX Designer

Sweta grew up surrounded by colours, shapes and textures. She loved drawing, designing and making things with her hands, and she was always asking “how could I make this better?” As she got older, she became curious about something else too: the mysterious lines of code that power websites and apps. She wanted to know how typing words into a computer could create entire digital worlds.

That mix of creativity and curiosity led Sweta to study Computer Science and Engineering. Today, she works as a UX (User Experience) Designer, which means she designs apps and websites that are easy, enjoyable and accessible for people to use. She combines her artistic eye with technical skills in coding and design tools to build digital products that work brilliantly and look great too.

STEM isn’t just one thing. It’s not only about maths and lab coats - it’s also about art, design, storytelling and imagination.

One of Sweta’s proudest moments was winning a gold medal at university - not just for her grades, but because she was the first girl in her family to complete an engineering degree. It was proof that hard work and curiosity can open doors that have never been opened before.

Like many people, Sweta sometimes found it hard to balance schoolwork with everything else going on in her life. She got through tough times by managing her time well, asking for help from mentors and friends, and remembering to look after herself too.

Her advice to you

Sweta wants children to know that STEM isn’t just one thing. If you love drawing, building, or figuring out how things work, there’s probably a STEM career that’s perfect for you. Her advice? Stay curious, keep an open mind, and don’t be afraid to combine the things you love - you might just invent a brand-new kind of job.
