Helisha attended a school in India that placed a strong emphasis on discipline and trust - values that shaped who she became. As a child, she was so thoughtful that she would often think twice before asking a question, worried it might not sound “smart enough.”
Everything changed when Helisha moved to Australia to study a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology at Federation University. Being far from home pushed her to step outside her comfort zone - talking to new people, discovering her strengths, and showing up to situations that felt uncomfortable at first. She later completed a Master’s in Information Systems and now works as a Graduate Endpoint Engineer at Logicalis Australia, a technology company.
“Don’t wait for the “perfect” moment to get started. If something in STEM interests you, start exploring today.”
Helisha’s biggest cheerleader has always been her father, who encouraged her to think big. When she wasn’t sure if she was suited to a technology career - she describes herself as more of a “people person” than a “numbers person” - her father gave her a book about a woman who built a successful career in the male-dominated tech world.
One of Helisha’s proudest moments was winning an award for “Curiosity” at her workplace - recognising her habit of asking questions, exploring new ideas, and constantly pushing herself to grow. Her biggest challenges have mostly been internal - limiting beliefs that held her back from speaking to people she admired, or saying yes to new opportunities.
