  • Founder, CEO and Senior Engineer, Infinity Growth
  • Lives in Canada

Monica’s path into engineering began with childhood curiosity about numbers and science. Long before her career started, she also spent years as a competitive artistic skater - an experience that taught her how to handle both victories and setbacks with grace, a skill that would prove valuable throughout her life.

At twenty-five, Monica moved from Colombia to Canada, arriving with big dreams but knowing very few people and speaking only a little French. Entering the engineering industry as a Latina woman in a field where the vast majority of engineers were men was daunting. She began her career as one of a small percentage of women working in a highly technical area called corrosion and integrity engineering - essentially, the science of stopping metal structures like pipelines from wearing away over time.

Embrace what makes you unique, and never let anyone else’s opinion define your worth.

Although Monica was technically very skilled, she found that climbing the career ladder also required leadership skills that take time to develop, and for a while she felt frustrated and unsure of herself. Eventually, after working through some difficult periods, she made a brave decision: rather than staying in a role where she didn’t feel valued, she started her own company.

Today, Monica is the founder, CEO and Senior Engineer at Infinity Growth, a consulting company with offices in Canada and projects around the world. The company focuses on corrosion, integrity management and sustainability - and on something just as important to Monica: helping technical professionals, especially women, become confident, empowered leaders.

Her advice to you

Monica’s advice to children - especially girls - is to embrace what makes you unique, and to never let anyone else’s opinion define your worth. She also believes deeply in finding a community of mentors and supporters, because every challenge becomes easier when you’re not facing it alone.
