Nursing

Neriane completed her early schooling in Brazil before making a big move: travelling to Spain to take the university entrance exam there. Learning in a new language was a huge challenge at first, requiring real determination, but Neriane studied for four years at the University of Cádiz and qualified as a nurse.

After graduating, Neriane felt ready academically, but - like many people starting a new career - she felt a little unsure about the practical, day-to-day side of the job. Rather than seeing this as a problem, she saw it as the beginning of something exciting, and the start of a path she knew was right for her.

No profession is only for one type of person, and there is always a place for those willing to study, learn, and keep going until they reach their goals.

Neriane went on to complete not one but two further qualifications: a Master’s in Nursing Research and Advanced Professional Practice, which helped her become a more independent Nurse Practitioner, and later a Master’s in Emergency care, which gave her extra confidence in fast-paced, high-pressure situations.

Neriane’s biggest source of inspiration has always been her family, especially her mother, who raised her to be strong, determined and resilient. Like many working parents, one of Neriane’s biggest ongoing challenges is balancing her career with family life. But she describes feeling proud, accomplished and appreciated in her work, and says that no single achievement stands out above the rest - instead, every qualification and experience has shaped the nurse she is today.

Her advice to you

Neriane’s advice to children is to be determined and persistent, and to pursue what truly makes them happy. She also encourages learning languages - something that opened up an entirely new country and career for her.
